The principal objective of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) is to ensure access to quality higher education, thereby minimizing regional imbalances. It will further foster quality among all by providing adequate opportunities to various communities as well as promote inclusion of women and differently able persons.
On this auspicious occasion, it is my privilege to share with you that the State Government has taken several initiatives to transform Sikkim into an education hub of the Nation. For this, the State legislative Assembly has also passed the Sikkim State Higher Education Council Act, 2016 to ensure smooth-functioning its quality.
To bring about qualitative changes in education, a significant percentage to the State budget is allocated for this sector. We are providing Higher Education, free of cost till the College level for everyone and till the University level to those belonging to the BPL category. The trust on improving the education system has continued; and we aim to raise the quality further. We are also in the process of establishing the first Government Engineering College in the State.
